Semuliki National Park is a unique lowland tropical forest located in western Uganda, stretching along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is an extension of the Congo Basin, giving it a distinctly Central African character, different from other Ugandan parks.
The park is famous for its hot springs — the male and female hot springs of Sempaya. The boiling water attracts visitors who can watch eggs or bananas cook instantly in the steaming pools. These hot springs hold cultural significance for the local Bamaga people, adding a fascinating cultural dimension to the visit.
Semuliki’s dense forest is home to over 400 bird species, many of which are not found elsewhere in East Africa, making it a birdwatcher’s haven. The forest also hosts 53 mammal species, including elephants, forest buffaloes, and primates like baboons and chimpanzees.
Cultural interactions with the Batwa and Bakonjo communities enhance the Semuliki experience. Visitors can learn traditional forest survival skills, music, and dances.
