Kibale National Park (Chimpanzee Tracking)

Kibale is often called the “Primate Capital of the World” because it hosts 13 primate species, the highest density in Africa. The park’s crown jewel is chimpanzee tracking, where visitors follow skilled rangers into the forest to observe chimpanzees in their social groups. The experience is interactive and often lively, as chimpanzees are very active and vocal.

Beyond chimps, Kibale is home to red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys, and olive baboons, offering a primate-watching adventure like no other. The forest also harbors forest elephants, duikers, and a variety of reptiles and amphibians, making it an ecological treasure.

The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, adjacent to the park, is managed by the local community and offers guided nature walks. This area is renowned for its birdlife, including the great blue turaco, and provides a chance to learn about eco-tourism efforts in Uganda.

Visitors can also enjoy cultural encounters with the Batooro people, experiencing traditional dances, food, and storytelling. Kibale thus combines adventure, conservation, and cultural richness in one destination.
