Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s smallest savannah park, but it offers big rewards for visitors. Located between Kampala and Bwindi, it’s often considered the perfect stopover safari. The park is known for its picturesque landscapes of rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and five lakes that create a tranquil setting for wildlife viewing.

The park is home to zebras, impalas, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, and a variety of antelopes. It’s one of the best places in Uganda to see impalas and elands, which are not common in other parks. With over 300 bird species, including the rare African finfoot and papyrus yellow warbler, it’s also a favorite among birdwatchers.

Lake Mburo offers unique safari experiences not commonly found elsewhere in Uganda. Guided walking safaris allow guests to track animals on foot, while horseback safaris offer a fresh perspective of the wilderness. Boat cruises on Lake Mburo give close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and water birds.

The park’s location makes it easily accessible, and it is ideal for short safaris, weekend getaways, or as part of a longer itinerary across Uganda. Its peaceful environment and wide range of activities make it an underrated gem for travelers.
