Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, bisected by the legendary Nile River. The dramatic centerpiece is the falls themselves, where the Nile is forced through a 7-meter gorge before plunging 43 meters with thunderous power. Standing at the top or base of the falls provides breathtaking photo opportunities and a true sense of nature’s raw strength.
Wildlife lovers flock to Murchison for its game drives on the Buligi Peninsula, where elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, and antelopes roam freely across the savannah. With over 450 bird species, including the rare shoebill stork, it’s also a prime spot for birdwatching.
The Nile boat cruise to the base of the falls is one of Uganda’s greatest safari highlights. From the water, you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and elephants along the riverbanks. The peaceful yet dramatic contrast of the calm cruise ending at the thunderous falls is unforgettable.
Visitors can also engage in sport fishing, hiking to the top of the falls, or exploring the Budongo Forest nearby, which is rich in chimpanzees. The diversity of activities makes Murchison a complete adventure destination.
