Nyungwe is one of Africa’s oldest rainforests and a biodiversity hotspot. Its dense vegetation and mountainous terrain make it a sanctuary for primates, with 13 species recorded, including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys.
The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 300 bird species, many of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Its flora, including rare orchids, adds to its ecological value.
One of Nyungwe’s standout features is its canopy walkway, the first of its kind in East Africa. Suspended above the forest, it offers thrilling views and a unique perspective on the treetops and wildlife.
Visitors can enjoy chimpanzee trekking, guided forest hikes, birding, and cultural tours with local communities. Nyungwe offers a blend of adventure, conservation, and education, making it a must-see in Rwanda.
